CHOO-CHOO TRAIN BIRTHDAY CAKE
My girl just turned one and for her very first birthday I wanted to bake a cake for her all by myself. For days I wondered about what shape to make. That’s because I wanted her to have some idea regarding what the cake is about. So I decided on a lion birthday cake. However, making that one was a challenge impossible enough for me to surmount (considering that it was my first time to bake a full-fledged birthday cake). And so I kept on thinking and thinking and eureka! My daughter is fond of trains, especially their wheels. Thus, I was going to make a choo-choo train birthday cake. Lucky for me, I found this wonderful recipe at Betty Crocker.
My day’s hard work paid off because the cake looked much better than I expected it to.
The recipe to the cake is here. There are couple of things that it doesn’t mention though that I think are worth knowing.
– Cake board – You don’t have to buy it. You can make one yourself by simply cutting a cardboard piece of desired shape. Wrap it first by a gift wrap and then by a food grade transparent sheet (like cling wrap).
– I got the “Betty Crocker SuperMoist cake mix” according to the recipe. But I wouldn’t recommend you doing that if you are a novice to frosting (just like me). Because the cake was super moist, its edges kept breaking up easily. I found it really difficult to crumb coat it and hence even the final frosting wasn’t smooth enough.
