Digging Through My 2015 Memory Jar and How Can You Make One Too!
I hope you already know that I am a sucker for the memories. I am the kind who loves talking on and on about things that happened in the past. I am the kind who makes it a point to go through our old photographs at least once a week. I am the kind who finds it extremely hard to let go of greeting cards and congratulation notes and even movie stubs.
So that is how I end up being a hoarder. I like picking up boxes and I like filling them with all sorts of bits and chits and keepsakes. And whenever I can take out time, I like going through those boxes and reliving the memories related to those things.
And hence, I have a yearly memory jar!
DIY Yearly Memory Jar Idea
This craft/home décor DIY is just an extension of my “memory madness.” And it is extremely simple.
This is how it goes – I take a vase (or it can be a box or a jar), I keep it at an easily accessible place in the house (like at a side table or on my study table) and all through the year I keep filling it with things that are connected with a pleasant memory of that year. I fill it with receipts from the places we ate at, stubs from movies that we saw, tickets from the events that we attended, pictures from places that we travelled – anything that was a good memory. I keep doing that for the entire year. On New Year’s Eve, I along with Mr B and Little B, take out everything from the jar and just revel and cherish the good times we had that year.
On December 31, 2015 we took out things from our memory jar and this is what we found –
Oh, believe you me! Taking out these things is like taking out gems from a treasure chest! It is indeed a great activity for the whole family to do on the New Year’s Eve.
My DIY 2016 Memory Jar Craft
Last year, I had put just the “2015” label on my memory jar. For 2016, I decided to not just label it, but also decorate it a little bit.
Luckily I had a stockpile of craft feathers left over from Little B’s birthday party and some other random things lying around in my craft drawer. This is what I came up with –
Can’t wait to create good memories this year and fill this vase again with some souvenirs from my crazy YellowMellowLife!
Memories jar:) Nice concept to keep your memorable moments with you always.
now I know about you a little more!
I’m a hoarder too and know all about letting go of ticket stubs. 🙁 I think I have some from way back in college. 😀
I love the idea of a memories jar. Especially one for the family to use. Should try it. 🙂
