Fall in Love with Fall – Pumpkin Pie Spice Paint
During our stint in the US, I grew quite fond of the autumn or the fall season. Autumn meant it was time for us to go on a romantic vacation to a fall-colors destination like Door County or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It meant the orange-red fall leaves that make it seem as the whole maple tree is on fire. It also meant spending hours finalizing a pattern for pumpkin carving and making my homemade pumpkin spice. That whole aroma of pumpkin and cinnamon cooking together, there was nothing that could better warm the evenings that had started to get a little chilly at that time of the year.
Little B and I are learning about seasons and I thought it would be a good idea to do some activities that can bring some of these elements of autumn/fall together.
Here’s the first one. So let’s go, let’s fall in love with fall –
Pumpkin Pie Spice Paint
What You will Need
Pumpkin pie spices – powdered cinnamon, nutmeg and clove
Poster colors in fall colors red, yellow and brown
Painting essentials like palette/plate and brush
How to Go About It
I let Little B explored the spices. She smelled them, tasted them and felt them in her hands. Little B is almost 5 now so I don’t have to worry about her rubbing the spices in her eyes or anything like that. However, if you are working with younger kids, I would recommend using your own judgement here.
We paired up each spice with a poster color. We selected cinnamon for brown, nutmeg for yellow and clove for red.
I wanted to make sure that each color smelled the spice powder it is mixed with. Therefore, we added a generous amount of spice powder in the color – about ½-1 teaspoon of spice powder in 1 tablespoon of paint.
As we mixed the spices with their respective paints, we had on our hands incredibly-nice smelling pumpkin pie spice paint.
We decided to use these paints for another activity dedicated to autumn – Autumn Nature Lover Crown. It will be coming on the blog pretty soon – keep reading!
I have already used them to make something super cool (I guess only kids will find it super cool though). A post coming soon!
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons too! I’ve not yet experience this season outside India but I do remember seeing and feeling some of it in Uttaranchal. I love the colours of fall. 🙂
And I loved that idea of mixing paint and spices, it’s just so cool. Looking forward to see how you use the paint…
