A Fancy ‘The Cat in the Hat’ Costume From Not So Fancy Material
It was Funny Character Dress Up Day in Little B’s school sometime back. Needless to say she was extremely excited. I asked her what she would want to dress up as and she instantly replied “The Cat in The Hat.”
Huh! Really! I thought The Cat in the Hat was last year’s craze. Remember her 3rd birthday party? Nevertheless, I promised her to give The Cat in the Hat costume a try.
Just a little hunt through the house and it all came together. I didn’t realize that putting together costume of the most cherished of all Dr. Seuss characters would be that easy.
Here’s how The Cat in the Hat looks like,
So for making the costume I needed a hat, a dress, a red necktie, a pair of white mittens and a little face painting. That shouldn’t be difficult!
Hat
I used the spare paper hat left from Little B’s last year’s birthday. I made this paper hat following the tutorial by Mamas Like You.
Dress
You would want to pick up a round-neck t-shirt in black or deep blue.
Cut a patch from a white cloth (or an old white t-shirt) and hand stitch it on the black/blue t-shirt.
Pair it up with a slacks in same color.
Red Necktie
Luckily, Little B has a red headband with a bow on it. You can also make a felt necktie using this tutorial.
White Mittens
I used an old pair of lace trim ankle socks as mittens.
Face Painting
Face painting whiskers is the icing on the cake for this look.
Now that I am writing about it, I wonder if I am really that thrifty!
Doesn’t matter because when it all came together, it looked really amazing!
This The Cat in the Hat costume even beats the owl costume that I made for Halloween a few years back!
@Manjari thanks for the encouragement!
