A Heart-Filled Box – Valentine’s Day Origami Hearts for Fathers

A Heart-Filled Box – Valentine’s Day Origami Hearts for Fathers

I feel that music is the source of so much inspiration, at least for me. Every time I listen to a new song, a bulb lights up in my head. Really!

For example, last year I saw Home and it had a nice soundtrack. One of the songs that I played on a loop was Cannonball by Kiesza. I fancied its lyrics –

“I was trying to take your heart
Keep it in a cardboard box
So when it gets hard
You’ll never be far
And your love won’t be lost.”

And that lead to this idea, of gifting someone a heart-filled box. Now the question was, how to fill a box with hearts? Tori Kelly’s Paper Hearts popped in my head and I was like “that’s it!”

Little B was looking for a gift for her Pa (Mr B) for Valentine’s Day. I said “Girl, here’s an amazing idea. We can make origami paper hearts and put them in a cardboard box and then wrap it and gift it to you Pa!”

Good thing she agreed.

Another good thing is that origami hearts are easy to make for a child who is comfortable doing the basic folds. Little B is 5-year-old and she can do her basic folds. So I knew she can make this Valentine’s Day craft for her father independently. Here are the steps to make an origami heart –

Valentine’s Day Origami Hearts For Fathers

  1. Take a square origami paper.
  2. Fold the paper in half by joining the top corner with the bottom one and making a diagonal fold. Press well to make a crease.
  3. Open the fold.
  4. Fold the paper again in half by joining the right corner with the left one. Press well to make a crease.
  5. Open the fold.
  6. Take the top corner and fold it till the center of the paper.
  7. Take the bottom corner and fold it up till a little over the top edge.
  8. Fold the bottom left edge till the center crease.
  9. Fold the bottom right edge till the center crease.
  10. Heart is almost ready. Let’s give it some final touches. Flip the heart over.
  11. Fold the top and side corners a little bit to give better shape.
  12. Flip it over again. Here’s your easiest origami heart.

We made more than a dozen hearts.

Then we filled them in a cardboard box, gift-wrapped the box and Little B Valentine’s Day Gift for her Pa was ready.

Shhh! Valentine’s Day is far yet and the gift is still a secret!
