Lessons in Parenting and Raising Entrepreneurs From ‘Losing My Virginity’
I am down and out with flu. My body is bearing the brunt of the obvious, and yet, my mind is free to do what it pleases. So I read the book that has been lying on my shelf for a week now – ‘Losing My Virginity’ by Sir Richard Branson. I start it and I am hooked.
Motherhood has made me crazy in a number of ways. While doing my professional work I try not to think about my daughter. I fail miserably. The harder I try not to think about Little B, the more I do. I especially got ‘Losing My Virginity’ from the library to get inspiration/advice on an entrepreneurial venture that I have been considering for a while now. As I read the book I end up taking notes on – how to nurture my daughter in such a way that she becomes an entrepreneur.
Who can take out anything rated PG from a book with ‘virginity’ in its heading? I can. That makes me feel so proud of myself and at the same time so angry at myself of never being able to switch off the ‘motherhood’ control box from my mind. What’s the use of yoga if I can’t concentrate?
Everyone knows Sir Richard Branson. In case you don’t, here’s the Wikipedia link for you. Branson is the founder of the Virgin Group. Virgin is the brand that brings along the thought of fun, exorbitance and dazzle. It doesn’t matter whether the brand is taken seriously or not because at the end of the day it keeps growing. It has explored almost every industry from music records to space tourism. With an estimated net worth of $5 billion, Branson is one of the wealthiest and most insatiable people on the planet. And yet, when you think about how it all started, it looks unbelievable. A dyslexic son of a next-door lawyer and airline stewardess is today one of those very few who have actually lived life to the fullest and never shied away or ran away from embracing an adventure.
To sum it all up, here are the 5 lessons in parenting and raising entrepreneurs from ‘Losing My Virginity’ that I have jotted down.
