Lessons in Parenting and Raising Entrepreneurs From ‘Losing My Virginity’
Branson mentions that even as a child, he was encouraged to talk to his parents and even discussed and argued on issues like pornography and drugs.
Now please don’t jump on the anti-western bandwagon by just reading ‘pornography and drugs.’ Of course that’s not the only thing he discussed with his parents. The point is that communication is important. We all know that but still we all dread it. Most parents do not want to discuss their day with their children let alone discuss any topic of importance. And arguing is often a strict no. We often quiet children on their persistent ‘whys.’
The key is to listen and to accept your children’s opinions. If they have a valid reason, let them say their heart out. Do not advice unless they ask for it. Do not laden them with the burden of do’s and don’ts even before they have taken their first step towards something. Let them try, let them fall.
