Saturday Brunch at JW Marriott Bengaluru
You know Mr B and I are a little weird, right? Most people prefer eating out for dinner. We prefer eating out for breakfast. It happens so very times on weekends when we just wake up late, have a cup of milk (yeah another thing we are weird about is our love for milk over tea or coffee) and just head out to eat.
We became more inclined towards eating our breakfast/brunch out since we had Little B. I remember just picking up Little B’s baby carrier and heading out in the crazy cold of Michigan to the nearest breakfast joint. And on the way there, thinking about nothing but that warm cup of hot chocolate topped up with lots and lots of fresh cream.
For us, eating out breakfast/brunch has not really been about convenience; because frankly I love cooking and I love cooking elaborate on weekends. Eating out has been about spending much needed quality time on weekends. It is about just chilling, sharing great stories from the week and eating good food while doing it.
A couple of weeks back, JW Marriott, Bengaluru invited me for a Bloggers’ Table at their newly launched Saturday brunch at JW Kitchen. I was excited about it, all the more because I was requested to bring a plus one with me. Mr B was going to be my +1 and it gave me slight goose bumps to even think about it. Being a blogger, an event like this is like my workplace. And isn’t it crazy (in a very very good way) to take your spouse to your workplace and let them see you in your elements! Am I the only one digging this?!
If that wasn’t enough, I was allowed to bring my +1/2 with me as well. So Little B was thrilled. She wanted to see for herself what do food bloggers do. I promised her that she could be a food blogger for that day – she could taste the food, think about if she likes them or not, take pictures and do all that jazz that she imagines that I do.
Saturday Brunch at JW Marriott Bengaluru
The sheer sight of the buffet spread was overwhelming. There was just so much to see, so much to smell and so much to taste. It felt as though wherever I went, the food followed me. Seriously!
The spread had counters from Indian, Italian, Asian, Latin American, Continental and many other cuisines. There were salads, breads, cereals, desserts and much more.
And yet amidst the enormous amount of food, it seemed that somehow each and every dish stood out. I knew, ‘boring’ is not something that I would be thinking today.
I appreciate an innovative brunch, however, I am adamant when it comes to the staples of the meal. I want them and I want them done perfectly. The brunch did live up to my expectation with live eggs counter and other egg-based brunch options like frittata. I spotted quail eggs. They looked so beautiful. It was amazing to watch the chef cook the eggs, they were too delicate and too small. The chef just had to gently tap on them to crack them. It took about 5 quail eggs to make a regular 1 egg omelette.
I am also a salad-kind-of-girl and loved the Grilled Eggplant with Dill Yogurt. Little B loves her prawns and had a prawn-based salad.
Mr B loved the crepe with chocolate and apricots –
And then I spotted the cheese wheel at the live pasta counter –
Look at the lovely tortellini –
I had seen my favourite Sorted Food Channel to make amazing things with marmite so I had to try it. But it wasn’t my cup of tea.
If everything here was ‘a lot,’ dessert section was ‘a LOT lot.’
I especially loved that fact that the JW Kitchen brunch took care of parents like us. They had a separate spread particularly for kids.
If that was not enough, they also had a Kids’ Corner with activities like coloring and balloon twisting. Mr B and I, let Little B play at the corner for some time while we enjoyed the brunch together. Isn’t that what all parents want – to enjoy a good meal with each other without any interruption by their kids!
Sometimes I feel that my life as a mother is like that song – “everybody’s working for the weekend.” I often wait so desperately for the weekends, where I will get that much awaited break from waking up early and cooking breakfasts and preparing lunches. And so, JW Marriott’s Saturday brunch was like therapy to me.
Believe me when I say this, for a mother in Bangalore, there is no better way to spend a Saturday then to wake up late, pile your family in your car and drive down to Lavelle Road. Did I tell you that the brunch starts at 11 am and goes all the way until 3.30 pm? With kids enjoying their own treats and staying busy at the Kids’ Corner, there is plenty of time for you to relax with your spouse and friends.
