Xigua Print For Recycling Folding Wooden Hand Fan

Recycling folding wooden hand fan was another long due project for me. Little B has a beautiful wooden fan with intricate carving. The fan has been with her for the last few years and so it has stopped appealing to her. I was thinking of painting the fan with her in summer vacations so that it can be a good project for her.

Then the A to Z Challenge happened and I was looking for something that I could do for letter X day. I learned a new word from my internet search that day – Xigua. Xigua is like another name for watermelon. Isn’t that such a cool information!

To solve two separate issues at my hand, I decided to hand paint the wooden hand fan with Xigua print.

We used acrylic colors for the project because they are water proof and give rich looking colors. We opened the fan as much as we could. The first color that we put was a white strip to come between the outer green rind and inner pink flesh of xigua. Next came the pink color and then the green. Put the whole thing together by painting black dots on the pink flesh for seeds of the fruit.

Ever since we have hand painted the old wooden fan and made it anew, Little B had started using it in her pretend play world. The fan which was stashed to the back of her toy drawer is now being kept over the drawer itself.
